William Lane Craig Refuted: Fine Tuning Argument

Back again to refute William Lane Craig, the fine tuning argument normally goes thus:-
  1. The fine-tuning of the universe to support life is either due to law, chance or design
  2. It is not due to law or chance
  3. Therefore, the fine-tuning is due to design
Let us take (1) the statement is flawed, Neil DeGrasse Tyson does the finest demolition of this statement I have yet seen. Basically the universe is not fine tuned for life, of the known universe humans CAN NOT survive in 99.999999999% of it.

So there goes that argument. Short and sweet, the next one objective morality is more complex. In the meantime I have linked to Neil DeGrasse Tyson video doing what he does best:-

William Lane Craig Refuted: Cosmological Argument

I actually quite like watching William Lane Craig debate, it seems to me that most theists are either take a literal view of the Bible or are so wishy-washy in their cherry picking it is like trying to hit a moving target.

At least WLC is consistent and logical, fair play to him he is clever as well. My aim here is concisely counter the argument and not refute them but reduce the arguments to assertions.

This is why I recognise WLC as being clever, the arguments he proposes are not refutable so the best you can do is reduce them to assertions. In a debate situation he sets up an argument which, in the traditional sense, is not refutable so to the audience it appears that he does not lose.

Lets us move on today we are looking at the Cosmological Argument WLC normally presents this thus:-
  1. Whatever begins to exist has a cause
  2. The universe began to exist
  3. Therefore, the universe has a cause
  4. This cause is the God of Classical Theism, and is a personal being, because He chose to create the universe

Let us go through these in logical order, the obsevation (1) Whatever begins to exist has a cause is flawed. The words "begin" and "cause" do not really make sense, time began with the big bang.

You cannot make a presumption based on the behaviour of things in this universe and apply that presumption to things outside of the universe.

This is flawed logic pure and simple, the argument is based on a build up of premises if the first premise is flawed the entire argument is flawed.

The comeback that WLC often comes back with is that 'atheists assert that the universe popped into existence' that is a straw man. I'm no cosmologist as you might have guessed however with regard to the Universe I DO NOT assert it popped into existence my answer is:-

I DO NOT KNOW

Sage Hack Use Multiple Companies

I used to be able to do this via copying Sage calling it Sage2 then manually editing the company file to a new data path. In more recent versions of Sage this has become tricky as the location of the Company file is no under.

All Users\Application Data\Sage\2010\

So if you want to switch companies then you have to manually edit the company file each time, not so easy. Found this little guide which will switch it for you.

William Lane Craig Refuted

I kind of like William Lane Craig but his arguments mostly dissolve into assertions no better than personally testimony.

They normally take the following form:-

1) Cosmological Argument
2) Objective Moral Values
3) Fine Tuning universe designed for life
4) Resurrection
5) Good god

Over the next few weeks I'm going to go through them one by and refute them all, ok maybe not refute but at least reduce them down to assertions. They all have things in common you cannot absolutely disprove them but then you cannot disprove god or flying dragons or pixies.

However we can reduce them to assertions.

Almost forgot joined the British Humanist Association they are an organisation that fit me almost perfectly.

Sympathies to Gary Speed's family

Just heard the shocking news that Gary Speed has committed suicide what a sad day for Welsh Football a manager that surely had a great future ahead of him.

Welsh Football's loss is nothing in comparison to the families loss though and my thoughts are with them at this time.

According to the BBC, BBC Gary Speed News Story

"A statement from Cheshire Police stated that: "On the morning of Sunday 27th November the Cheshire Police Constabulary was told of a sudden death at an address in Huntington in Chester."

Very sad news.
