Lying Church Fathers

Think these quotes say it all really:-

Church History (Eusebius), Book VIII, Chapter 2.3.
But we shall introduce into this history in general only those events which may be useful first to ourselves and afterwards to posterity.

Hotel System TV Hack

I stay in a range of hotels and the Xbox 360 complete with full sky TV is great. Many Hotels lock TV so you cannot bring up the menu.

This works for many modern LG TV's. Press and hold Menu until a little icon comes up in the top right corner, then enter 1105 and ok on the remote. Turn off Hotel TV in the menu.

Jesus Eyewitness Timeline

Recently have been watching and reading a lot of David Fitzgerald author of Nailed, see link to book!

Anyway point of this post at Skepticon he did a talk and one image he posted was a wow moment:

That caused a stir, all this time there is me thinking well Jesus has to be historical, that looks unlikely! Pair this with the failure of history to note other supernatural events recorded in the Gospels e.g. zombie hoard in Matthew and it does make you wonder exactly how much of this is made up!

Insane Papias

Papias thought that Judas had swollen up to the size of at least a chariot! See Papias writings.

Also don't forget the Salem Witch trials as examples of miracles with eye witness testimony.

Auguistine On Christian Doctrine Book2

Thought this quote might be handy.

Now, in regard to the canonical Scriptures, he must follow the judgment of the greater number of Catholic churches; and among these, of course, a high place must be given to such as have been thought worthy to be the seat of an apostle and to receive epistles. Accordingly, among the canonical Scriptures he will judge according to the following standard: to prefer those that are received by all the Catholic churches to those which some do not receive. Among those, again, which are not received by all, he will prefer such as have the sanction of the greater number and those of greater authority, to such as are held by the smaller number and those of less authority. If, however, he shall find that some books are held by the greater number of churches, and others by the churches of greater authority (though this is not a very likely thing to happen), I think that in such a case the authority on the two sides is to be looked upon as equal.

Sheldrake v Atkins Debate Transcript

I grabbed this from a cached copy of from Sheldrake.org. seems to have been taken down adn thought I would preserve it here. I can't vouch for how accurate it is but it matches my memory of the discussion.

BBC Radio Five Live September 6, 2006.
The discussion started with the interviewer asking Rupert Sheldrake to describe his work on telephone telepathy, and on his similar test with emails. Sheldrake described the results. In the videotaped telephone telepathy tests, the average hit rate was 45% compared with 25% expected by chance, with odds against this being a chance coincidence of billions to one
The discussion continued as follows:

Interviewer: However let’s talk to a leading scientist, Professor Peter Atkins, who is a biologist at Lincoln College Oxford. Professor Atkins why is all this a total waste of time in your view?
Atkins: Well, you can’t rely on any of these experiments. And by the way I’m a chemist not a biologist. But there is no serious work done in this field. The samples that people use are very tiny, the effects are statistically insignificant, the controls are not done in a scientific way. On the whole there’s just no point in doing it. There are no serious reasons for believing there should be an effect of telepathy anyway. There is no mechanism within modern science to account for it. There’s nothing that drives people to believe in it except sentiment, emotion, and things like that.
Interviewer: Well it would be useful wouldn’t it? I can think of all kinds of….
Atkins: Well this is the point, nature has been around for several billion years and the pressure of evolution and natural selection would have brought out telepathy to be one of the major senses, after all look what’s happened to vision. Vision is enormously important to survival and several independent emergencies of vision and the optical system have occurred, but with telepathy it would be fantastic. You wouldn’t need vision you’d just know what was to go on around you. The fact that evolution hasn’t done it in a billion years seems to me to be really convincing evidence that it’s all nonsense.
Interviewer: On the other hand when he produces his evidence, he said 25% was what you would expect, but what he got was 45%, that is remarkable.
Atkins: No, that’s just playing with statistics.
Interviewer: Let’s put that to Rupert. Rupert Sheldrake, he says you’re just playing with statistics. He doesn’t believe a word of it. What do you say to him?
Rupert: Well I’d like to ask him if he’s actually read the evidence? May I ask you Professor Atkins if you’ve actually studied any of this evidence or any other evidence?
Atkins: No, but I would be very suspicious of it.
Rupert: Of course, being suspicious of it in advance of seeing it is normally called prejudice.
Atkins: Yes, there’s always reason to believe in bizarre phenomena by looking into alternative explanations within the scientific milieu. For example people guessing, because of a particular time of day that someone’s going to call.
Rupert: These tests exclude that, you seemed to have missed the point of the experiments. They’re done by random selection. You know, I started from the kinds of objections you’re putting forward, that’s the starting point, then we try to go on and test those in rigorous scientific tests.
Atkins: But they’re not rigorous.
Rupert: How do you know? You don’t know a thing about it, you haven’t looked at the evidence. I think you’re talking from a point of view of prejudice, dogma and frankly lack of information. I would never presume to comment on your experiments in chemistry without reading them.
Atkins: But I’ve read your experiments in the past on other off the wall ideas that you’ve had.
Rupert: Have you? Well we can discuss any of those you’d like to.
Atkins: But none of them proved to be valid.
Interviewer: Thank you both very much…Anecdotally, I bet lots of listeners have had that funny feeling about the phone….

Jesus Suffering not enough to atone for sin.

Interesting Colossians 1.24
Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.

The Real Ten Commandments

I didn't realise until the other day the actual real ten commandments are as follows:-
  1. Thou shalt worship no other god.
  2. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.
  3. The feast of unleavened bread thou shalt keep.
  4. Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest.
  5. Thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year’s end.
  6. Thrice in the year shall all your men children appear before the Lord God.
  7. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven.
  8. Neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.
  9. The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God.
  10. Thou shalt not seethe a kid [ie, a young goat] in his mother’s milk.

It seems after a mix up Moses throw his toys out of the pram and had to get another set. Which he does and we find out whay they are in Exodus 34:28.

Cardiff City, Cardiff Dragons, Cardiff Scum

Just been reading about Cardiff on the BBC News site, I think we should let Swansea City pick their name, starts with S and ends with a M. Tongue in cheek!

Main reason for writing this is to do with the amount they owe out. this new owner looks random he could do anything at any time. If I was owed money by Cardiff I would be very worried that he could throw the club into bankruptcy and I'd lose all my cash.

However if I was owed money and waited until Cardiff got into the Premier League then suddenly it is much harder to go bankrupt and that would be the time to collect a Cardiff City debt.

Zombie Cult Christianity

I know this is the urban definition of Christianity but I always forget its from so post here as reminder.
The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

Debt Free Wanna Be

I have searched for solutions to my debt issues in the past and found a company that can certainly offer help. It is a simple solution to a big headache which debt can be.

This mob really helped me out so one click away from less sleepless nights!

I think the first step for anyone concerned about debts is get all their money outgoings and incomings down on a spreadsheet. I had a shock when I first did this and you can really focus on saving some serious money.

The next most important thing is to start talking to your debtors, I have spoken to many people that chuck the horrible red letters in a drawer hoping it will all go away. It is true that at heart we all all debt free wannabe and with some planning it is possible!
